Faber-Castell: Pitt Artist Pens (Part 1)

Getting into professional inking can be pretty daunting if you have no prior experience in the medium or tools of the trade.

Some inkers still like using brushes or brush pens, others use dipping pens and india ink, but most will stick to the trusty technical pens. Technical pens come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and picking the right ones for your work and style, without already knowing the ropes, can be a shot in the dark. This is where Faber-Castell comes to the rescue.

Faber-Castell has a range of inking and colouring pens called Pitt Artist Pens. They have options for inking (technical pens, shown here) and colouring (colour brush pens). In addition to these being pro-level art tools, they also sell them in a variety of preselected sets. These sets are great for pros that have a go-to set of pens, but more importantly, they’re awesome for beginners as it takes the guesswork out of the purchase.

Today we’ll be looking at Faber-Castell’s India Ink Pitt Artist Pens set of 4. This set contains 3 of the most commonly used pen sizes (S:0.3, F:0.5, and M:0.7) as well as a brush pen. We’re sticking to the black ink variant today, but it’s also important to note that these pens also come in ‘sanguine’ and ‘sepia’ tones for those who like to spice things up a bit.

This set is basically all that you would need to ink artwork professionally. It has a variety of tip sizes for a multitude of applications, such as creating bold outlines using the M pen and smaller details with the F and S. We particularly love creating expressive linework using the brush pen and then refining the minutia using the smaller size pens. You can mix and match them as needed, and find which ones suit your way of working best!

These pens use jet black, pigmented, lightfast and odourless ink, which will not fade over time. The ink is waterproof once dry, making this a great option for mixed media artwork as well. These are the perfect choice for creating sketches, drawings, layouts, fashion design, drafting and designs, illustrations, hobby projects and more.
