Gum Arabic is the main binder in watercolour. It controls the flow of wet colour, slows drying and increases gloss and transparency. Winsor & Newton Gum Arabic is no different. This medium allows colour blending for longer and reduces staining. Dilute with water as required.

This pale coloured solution also binds pigments well and can be used as temporary transport shield for brushes. Gum Arabic can work as a mask as well; it can be painted over and then removed to reveal the surface underneath.
