Description
About the IROJITEN line:
The first IROJITEN coloured pencil was sold in Japan back in 1988, and the line has only grown since then. The Tombow IROJITEN line consists of high-quality wax-based coloured pencils, sold in specific colour sets or as separate, individual pencils – initially, this was exclusively available in Japan.
The name IROJITEN refers to a “colour dictionary” or “lexicon” in Japanese, relating to how the coloured pencil line allows complete artistic expression through its colours, from gentle pastels to bold neons in the hand of any artist.
Precautions for Use:
- Recommend using a sharpener that produces a blunter angle, as sharpening the core to a very sharp point may result in poor sharpening results.
- Avoid pressing the pencil too hard or sharpening it to an overly fine point.
- Do not leave the pencils in direct sunlight or in locations subject to high temperatures.
- If ‘Wax Bloom,’ a natural oxidation process in which wax rises to the surface and leaves a pale haze occurs: It can be easily wiped off with a clean, dry cloth. The affected area can be coloured again and sealed with a fixative.
What is the difference between wax-based and oil-based coloured pencils?
Coloured pencils with a wax-based lead are softer and therefore have a stronger colour abrasion. Hence light pressure is enough to release colour pigments.
Please note, wax-based pencils work well on dark paper as wax-based colour pencils are more opaque.
Oil-based coloured pencils have a harder lead and therefore only have a slight colour drift. They are only suitable for use on light-coloured surfaces as they are more transparent.
