Mars® 502 Lead Sharpener – Staedtler

Staedtler Mars 502 Lead Pointer Tub – For 2mm Leads

The Staedtler Mars 502 Lead Pointer Tub is a reliable rotary sharpener designed for 2mm leads, whether used loose or in a mechanical pencil. Housed in a sturdy tub with an integrated cleaning pad, it offers a mess-free sharpening experience, with plenty of space to catch lead shavings. This clever tool features an automatic sharpening stop to prevent over-sharpening and ensure a precise, consistent point every time. Two gauging holes allow you to control the sharpness of your point: one for an ultra-fine tip ideal for technical drawing, and the other for a standard writing point.

The sharpener includes a durable metal blade and a built-in lead-dust wiper to clean your lead after sharpening, keeping your lines crisp and your hands clean.

Product features:

  • Designed for 2mm clutch pencil leads.
  • Sharpens leads loose or in a clutch pencil.
  • Two gauging holes for different point types.
  • Auto-stop sharpening mechanism.
  • Integrated cleaning pad and shavings container.
  • Durable metal blade for long-term use.

Since the blade in this tool only touches graphite, it lasts longer than ordinary pencil sharpeners. It is, however, still recommended to replace the blades regularly for the best results, especially if you were to sharpen chalk-based leads.

  1. Insert the lead into one of the gauging holes marked with a triangle.

  2. Press the clutch pencil to release the lead into the hole.

  3. Let the pencil re-clasp the lead and lift it out—this will set the protruding length for sharpening.

  4. Place the pencil into the large central sharpening hole and rotate the lid until it turns freely.

  5. Wipe the sharpened lead on the white cleaning pad to remove excess dust.
