Air Drying Clay – Dala

R139.00

Dala Air Drying Clay is a durable and versatile modelling material that hardens naturally without the need for baking or firing. Designed for both educational and professional use, it provides a reliable medium for sculpting, modelling, and decorative applications. The clay should be kneaded until soft and pliable before shaping into flat or three-dimensional forms. A small amount of water can be used to smooth joins, seal cracks, and maintain workability. If the clay becomes too stiff, it can be softened with water; if excess water is added, allow it to evaporate before continuing. This material accepts surface decoration and texture well. Impressions can be made using wire mesh, stamps, or moulded items, and additional elements such as beads, stones, or other embellishments may be pressed into the clay while damp. Drying should take place on a smooth, non-porous surface in a cool, dry environment out of direct sunlight. Drying time will vary depending on thickness but is typically up to 24 hours. Once fully hardened, the clay may be painted with Acrylic Paint and finished with a Varnish for added protection.

Description

If you like working with clay, kneading it to get it soft and pliable, then this Dala air drying clay is perfect for you!

Here is a how-to for those wanting to try this clay:

  • It is recommended that you have a small bowl of water with you while working with the clay, so that you can seal any cracks that appear and seamlessly cover any joins.
  • Knead the clay in your hands until it is pliable enough to shape it into your desired form.
  • Clay that is a little too stiff can be softened with a little water.
  • If you add too much water, allow the excess to evaporate before continuing.
  • You can make impressions of chicken wire, rubber stamps, moulded items or decorate the clay with beads, stones, and more by pressing them into the wet clay.
  • Place on a smooth, non-porous surface to dry for up to 24 hours(depending on the thickness and application) in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
  • Once dry, you can paint the item with a craft paint and seal it with varnish.
