Description

The difference between Baohong Classic Watercolour Paper and Baohong Masters’ Watercolour Paper:
Both are made from 100% cotton, but there are key differences in the quality of the cotton, the speed of the production process and the type of gelatine used.

Baohong Masters’ – Better absorption and better colour development

  • Made from the highest quality cotton shreds with very long fibres.
  • Production speed on the circular sieve is slower.
  • Granulation is more pronounced.
  • Better ability to lift.

Baohong Classic – Attractive price point.

  • Made from cotton with slightly shorter fibres.
  • Production speed on the circular sieve is faster.
  • More subdued granulation.

The History of Paper:
The origin of paper starts in China, archaeological evidence of papermaking in China dating back around 2000 years ago in the 2nd century BC. Further the traditional credit for the invention of paper goes to Cai Lun. Chai Lun, who was a court member of the Han imperial dynasty, is currently credited with having developed a new and improved papermaking process in 105 BC.

Chai Lun invented paper by mixing hemp, mulberry bark and cotton with water and then pounding the mixture into a pulp which was then spread out on a silk-screen and allowed to dry, forming a thin sheet of paper. This version of paper was a major improvement over previous writing materials, such as bamboo and parchment, as it was much cheaper, durable and easier to work on. It quickly became the preferred material for calligraphy, writing and art in China.
