Frequently asked questions:
1. Water-based?
Yes. All core Ferris Wheel Press ink lines (including their Everyday Inks, FerriTales, and studio calligraphy lines) are water-based formulations.
2. Dye-based?
These are dye-based inks. Their soft pastels, dual-tone shading properties, and heavy sheens are achieved using fully dissolved liquid colorants. (Note: Their famous shimmer particles are floating metallic flakes, but the base fluid itself remains dye-based).
3. Waterproof?
No. If water or a watercolor wash touches the dry ink line, the dyes will readily reactivate, lift, and bleed across the paper.
Note for Artists: While this means they aren’t good for waterproof outlines, it makes them a favorite for ink-and-wash sketching, as they display beautiful, dramatic underlying color hues when brushed out with clean water.
4. Lightfast?
Low/Standard. Just like other boutique dye-based inks, their standard fountain pen colors will fade over time if exposed to prolonged UV light or direct sunlight.
5. Contain any Resins?
Fountain Pen Collections: No heavy resins. Their fountain pen inks do not contain shellac or thick bonding resins, ensuring they remain completely fluid and safe for regular use in fountain pen feeds. They rely on standard water-soluble lubricants to ease flow.
Sparkling Inks:
• Best used in broader nib pens.
• For best result, gently rock the bottle to stir up the flecks. Be careful to avoid bubbles in the ink.
• Store pen upright when not in use, and clean your pen prior to stowing away in order to minimize potential clogging over time.
