This student-quality Daler Rowney Graduate Gesso Primer has been specially formulated to provide a good value option and is ideal for use to prime large surfaces in internal environments. Used neat to seal semi absorbent paint surfaces like unprimed canvas, for both acrylic and oil painting. Produces matt white surface with a slight texture or tooth.
The gesso primer will ensure the paint does not soak into the surface of the canvas and leave a patchy image. If you are to paint on boards such as Masonite and MDF, then you can exploit the primer or gesso properties by putting it on with a coarse house-painting brush. You can imitate a canvas surface by laying gesso down in one, and then the other direction. Alternatively, try stippling the primer on for a different texture.
