Description
Since 1858, Esterbrook has occupied a singular place in American fine writing history. Born in Camden, New Jersey, the company built its reputation on interchangeable steel nibs long before the concept became mainstream in pen design. At its peak, Esterbrook produced over 100 different nib varieties, and its pens could be found in the hands of writers, professionals, and creative thinkers across generations. Notable admirers included John F. Kennedy and Peanuts creator Charles Schulz. After years of dormancy, the brand was reborn under the Kenro Industries umbrella in 2019, and the result — the Estie — became one of the most celebrated fountain pen releases of the modern era. Beautifully turned from premium acrylic, fitted with German JoWo nibs, and designed around the cushion cap closure that keeps every Estie consistently wet and ready to write, the range reminded the pen world exactly why Esterbrook had been missed.
Ferris Wheel Press is a design and stationery company based in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Founded by Phoebe Wang and driven by a love of whimsical and story-led design, Ferris Wheel Press built a devoted global following through its extraordinary bottled inks, each one named, narrativised, and packaged as a small piece of imaginative world-building. Their FerriTales collection expanded that storytelling into collaborative territory, partnering with pen makers to create limited edition writing instruments that carry the Ferris Wheel Press visual language into the pen itself. The Rockstar Estie is the second chapter in the Esterbrook x Ferris Wheel Press story, following the celebrated Nebulous Plume, and it marks a confident step forward in ambition and character.
Where the Nebulous Plume evoked the quiet beauty of a night sky, the Rockstar reaches for something louder. The pen body is turned from DiamondCast resin — a material handcrafted in the United States in small batches and infused with real diamond dust, which gives it its characteristic depth, shimmer, and luminosity. The Rockstar’s specific blend weaves together deep matte blacks and royal purples, punctuated by electric veins of teal that catch light in ways that change with every angle. The visual effect is genuinely dramatic — it evokes stage lights cutting through a darkened arena or, in quieter moments, a midnight sky shot through with colour. Because DiamondCast is hand-poured in small batches, no two Rockstar Esties are identical. The swirl on your pen belongs only to you.
The pen is finished with polished gold plate trim and a decorative centre band engraved with the word Rockstar. The #6 JoWo steel nib carries both the Esterbrook and Ferris Wheel Press names — a small but meaningful detail that marks this as a true collaboration. The cushion cap closure, one of the Estie’s most loved features, provides a secondary airtight seal that keeps the feed wet and the ink ready to flow even after days between writing sessions. The interchangeable nib system means the nib unit unscrews cleanly and can be replaced with any Esterbrook-compatible JoWo #6 nib unit, giving the pen a long and adaptable life well beyond the collaboration itself.
The Rockstar Estie arrives as a complete collector’s set. Inside the themed presentation box you will find the fountain pen, a custom bottle of Ferris Wheel Press ink curated to complement the teal and purple tones of the pen, and a branded guitar pick , a playful and entirely on-theme addition that anchors the musical inspiration behind the release. This is a pen designed to be written with, carried with pride, and kept.
