The Story Behind the Souverän
The name “Stresemann” has an intriguing connection to both German history and Pelikan’s iconic striped fountain pens. Gustav Stresemann, who served as Germany’s Foreign Minister during the 1920s, was known not only for his distinguished political career but also for a distinctive pinstriped suit. Practical enough for the office yet elegant enough for official occasions, the suit became closely associated with him. Around the same time, Pelikan’s own pinstriped fountain pens were gaining international recognition. Their distinctive appearance led enthusiasts to affectionately call them “Stresemann”, giving the name a lasting association with Pelikan’s striped designs.

Today, Pelikan officially honours this heritage with the Souverän 805 Stresemann, featuring sophisticated anthracite pinstripes. Its distinctive striped barrel is created through a meticulous, months-long process. The material is precisely shaped and cut using natural diamond tools, while the signature double rings are seamlessly integrated into the cap and barrel. How to Fill Your Pelikan Souverän

1. Extend the piston: Turn the piston knob counterclockwise until the piston is fully extended.
2. Fill with ink: Immerse the nib completely in bottled fountain pen ink, then turn the knob clockwise to draw ink into the reservoir.
3. Finish: Lift the nib from the ink, allow excess ink to drain back into the bottle, and gently wipe the nib with a soft, lint-free cloth.
