 Granulating Colours, 24 Colours
A dot card featuring Holbein’s 24 Granulating Colours — the separating colours from the Artists’ Watercolour range. Each granulating colour combines pigments of differing particle sizes, so as the wash dries the pigments settle apart into textured, mottled effects well suited to landscape, botanical and experimental work.

How to use:

• Load a brush with clean water and touch it to a colour dot to activate the paint.
• Lift the colour and paint a swatch beside the dot to see its true wash, transparency and granulation.
• Vary the water to test each colour from full strength to a pale wash.

Holbein Artists’ Watercolour is a European-style transparent watercolour, finely ground and produced without ox-gall, animal by-products or other dispersing agents — which permits greater colour density and brush control while preserving the brush handling qualities inherent in traditional Japanese watercolour technique. Colour concentration is high, so a wide range of tones can be drawn from a single colour by adjusting the water. The paint does not soak too deeply into the paper, giving a controlled degree of bleed, and the range is noted for clear, vivid colour, excellent lightfastness and high transparency — so layered colours mix optically on the paper across a wide variety of watercolour techniques.
