Canson XL Watercolour Pads feature a cold press textured paper that works beautifully for a variety of techniques. The durable surface is resistant to repeated washes, erasing and scraping. Even though it’s labelled as cold press, the texture is more like fine-grain cartridge paper, but it is not as smooth as hot press. Besides the traditional cold press texture, XL Watercolour offers flexibility with a smooth side on the back for drawing.

  • Natural White watercolour paper.
  • Cold-pressed texture.
  • Acid-free.
  • Paper weight: 300gsm.
  • Ideal for watercolour, acrylic, pen & ink, marker, coloured pencil, pencil, charcoal & pastel.
  • Sheets are micro-perforated.
  • Available in spiral pads and single sheet sampler.
  • 30 sheets per pad.

Available sizes:

  • A4 (29.7 x 21 cm) pad.
  • A3 (42 x 29.7 cm) pad.

Understanding the 3 surfaces or textures of watercolour paper

  • Rough – A pronounced, varied texture, great for a textured loose feel.
  • Cold-pressed (NOT) – It’s the paper texture in-between rough and hot-pressed paper, having a slightly textured surface this paper is sometimes called NOT.
  • Hot-pressed (HP) – Watercolour paper with a very smooth surface and almost no tooth. Good for painting detailed paintings and creating very smooth washes.

The Not stands for “Not Hot pressed”.
