Developed in the 1930s, the Artist Pencils were the first colour pencils in Derwent’s range of pencils. Their slightly waxy texture makes them ideal for layering and blending so that an infinite spectrum of subtly different hues and tints can be created. With Derwent Artists Pencils you will be spoilt for choice! There are 120 colours in the range and their waxy texture makes them ideal for layering & blending to create a large number of colours. They have a nice fat colour strip which is ideal to create expressive drawings. The Derwent Artists pencil is a broad, round pencil with a traditional wide core which means you can make broader strokes in a free and expressive drawing.

Product features:

  • Rich, deep aquamarine barrel has an elegantly curved, double-dipped end.
  • Large diameter strip allows naturally broad strokes and strong lines.
  • Slightly waxed texture for easy blending and shading.
  • Very good lightfastness.
  • 4mm wide core, 8mm diameter.
  • Available in tin sets of 12, 24, 36 and 72.

Lightfastness rating (LF) = 3,4 – FAIR, MODERATE | 5,6 – GOOD, VERY GOOD | 7,8 – EXCELLENT.
Derwent uses the Blue Wool test (ISO 105) to evaluate lightfastness. Lightfastness refers to the chemical stability of a pigment under long exposure to light. A scale of 1-8 is obtained,
with values of 6 or higher being considered to be highly lightfast and, under museum conditions, will not fade for 100+ years.
