Tombow: Mono-a-Mono Zero

Having a favourite pen is pretty normal, but it might seem bizarre that some creatives can even become obsessed with smaller, seemingly less significant tools of the trade such as rulers, sharpeners, and (today’s topic) erasers!

Soft Erasers

The truth is that every tool is important in its own way. While creating art can sometimes be challenging, it’s not meant to be frustrating. With that in mind, whenever you have the opportunity to get your hands on a tool that not only doesn’t get in the way of your process but also makes it easier, cherish it.

We present to you, the Tombow Mono Eraser line – a brand new product for South Africa. The Mono Eraser has been coined ‘the best eraser in the world’ by many die-hard fans, and it’s no surprise why. Let’s first cover the basics:

The Mono eraser is exceptionally soft and smooth and erases cleanly with little effort. We expect no less from a Japanese brand as revered as Tombow. They are perfect for working professionals, creative hobbyists, students or even scholars. The high quality, EDC (every day carry) eraser is phthalate-free and latex-free. It comes in quite a few variations, and while it’s tricky covering them all in a single post, we’ll try our best to run through the options to ensure you get the one that’s right for you.

The first is the classic ‘block’ style eraser that we all know and love. This has a standard Tombow Mono version for every day use, which comes in small, medium and large sizes. It also comes in ‘Smart’, ‘Light’, ‘Dust-Catch’, and ‘Sand’ variations. The Smart eraser is a lot slimmer (coming in at only 5,5mm in thickness), meaning it’s far easier to do more precise erasing, even after some wear and tear. The Light eraser is specially made so that you can erase easily with very little pressure – goodbye wrinkly paper! The Dust-Catch is a tacky polymer eraser that, as the name suggests, picks up eraser dust as you go for a less-mess erasing experience. The Mono Sand eraser boasts a fine, sandy grit, allowing you to erase colour pencils, inks, and even some markers.

In addition to the block erasers, they also have extendable, refillable pen-type erasers – the ‘Zero’ range. This is where the Tombow Mono really shines, and is a big reason for its popularity. There are two tip options for these. First a 2,5mm rectangular, general-purpose variation, as well as a super-fine, precise round-tip (2,3mm) variation. These are aptly named ‘Precision Erasers’ and come in both plastic casings, and metal casings for durability. The elongated pen grip makes detailed erasing and highlighting graphite drawings a painless and enjoyable task, and fits snug alongside your other tools in your pencil bag or art toolbox.

We’re so excited to finally have such an amazing and highly requested product range hit SA shores, so be sure to grab one before they’re all gone!
