Hahnemühle Britannia is heavyweight paper particularly well suited for wet techniques such as watercolour (wet-in-wet, smooth wash and dry painting), as well as gouache, tempera and acrylic. Due to its strength and thickness, the board offers excellent flatness after moistening. The hard surface ensures easy application of the colours.

  • Lignin, natural white paper.
  • Acid-free, age-resistant and lightfast.
  • Paper weight: 300gsm.
  • Available in Hot Press and Cold Press textures.

Understanding the 3 surfaces or textures of watercolour paper

Rough – A pronounced, varied texture, great for a textured loose feel.

Cold-pressed (NOT) – It’s the paper texture in-between rough and hot-pressed paper, having a slightly textured surface this paper is sometimes called NOT.

Hot-pressed (HP) – Watercolour paper with a very smooth surface and almost no tooth. Good for painting detailed paintings and creating very smooth washes.
