Two Ranges, One Kit

Jacquard’s Lumiere and Neopaque ranges serve distinct but complementary purposes in fabric and mixed media painting, and the Exciter Pack is the most effective way to experience both at the same time.

Lumiere paints are acrylic-based fabric paints with a metallic or pearlescent finish. The metallic colours , gold, silver, copper, bronze , have a specular, light-reflective quality produced by metallic pigments suspended in the acrylic medium. The pearlescent colours have a softer, more directional sheen that shifts slightly with viewing angle, produced by mica-based pigments. Lumiere paints are transparent to semi-transparent, which means they are affected by the colour of the substrate beneath them. On dark fabric, metallic Lumiere colours may need a white base coat to read correctly. On light fabric, they produce brilliant metallic or pearl effects directly. The range is widely used in costume and wearable art, mixed media collage, surface design, and bookbinding.

 Lumiere is transparent and lustrous, Neopaque is opaque and matte. The Neopaque formula is designed for full, even coverage on any colour of substrate including black fabric, where many fabric paints fail to show clearly. The paint is particularly useful for detailed work on dark backgrounds, for stencilling where clean edges and solid colour are required, and for any application where the fabric colour underneath must be completely blocked. Both Lumiere and Neopaque are flexible when dry, meaning they move with the fabric rather than cracking, and both are permanent once heat-set with an iron or heat press.
