Schmincke Drawing Gum is a professional-quality masking fluid designed to protect selected areas of a painting while watercolour, ink, gouache or other water-based media are applied around them. Available in blue-tinted or colourless versions, this odourless, ammonia-free masking fluid is gentle to use and easy to see during application. Suitable for watercolour paper, smooth illustration board, photographs and film, it can be applied directly from the dispensing bottle or with tools such as dip pens, ruling pens, cotton buds or wooden sticks. Once dry, the masking film peels away cleanly to reveal untouched white areas and crisp highlights.

Using masking fluid for watercolour painting leaves the white area of plain paper. The way the colour is applied has to be planned out to save back some areas of paper that are not painted on and you can achieve sparkling whites or highlights in the painting.
The Schmincke AQUA series watercolour mediums enable new creative techniques and effects with the Horadam Aquarell watercolour paint. The masking fluid / drawing gum, coloured is listed among the AQUA pre-treatment mediums. If you would like to partially mask smooth, non-absorbent paper before watercolouring, you can choose from a range of rubbing crepe and masking pencils. The coloured version of the masking fluid makes the applied area visible on the paper surface before painting.
Please note! Always use a palette or plate for mixing and under no circumstances should the medium be poured directly into the pans. Store in a cool place. Protect from frost.
