The Original Field Notes Kraft Memo Books are the foundation of the Field Notes collection, inspired by the very first handmade notebooks Aaron Draplin created as holiday gifts for friends. When Field Notes was launched, the company began with just one product: a 3-Pack of Kraft Memo Books featuring graph paper. These simple, practical notebooks remain at the heart of the Field Notes range.

• Printing: Produced by Service Graphics, Inc. in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.
• Covers: Made from French Dur-O-Tone 118gsm, “Packing Brown Wrap”  stock and printed with a bold, single-colour application of “Dachshund Nose” black soy-based Toyo ink.
• Pages: Printed on Finch Paper Opaque Smooth 60#T (approx. 89gsm) “Bright White” stock using “Double Knee Duck Canvas” light-brown soy-based Toyo ink.
• Cover printing: Printed on a Mitsubishi Diamond Series 40-inch, 6-colour printing press.
• Interior printing: Printed on a Miller TP104 28 × 40-inch, 2-colour printing press.
• Binding: Finished using a Heidelberg ST350 “Stitchmaster” 8-pocket saddle stitcher, paying tribute to Samuel Slocum, George W. McGill, and William J. Brown—the pioneers credited with the development of the staple.
• Corners: Precisely rounded to 9.5 mm (3/8″)  using a CRC round-corner machine.
• Paper options: Available with a 4.7 × 4.7 mm (3/16″ × 3/16″) graph grid, 6.4 mm (1/4″) ruled lines, or crisp plain paper. Each memo book contains 48 pages.
• Size: Each memo book measures 89 × 140 mm (3½” × 5½”).
• Typography: Field Notes uses the Futura typeface family, originally designed by Paul Renner in 1927, in collaboration with Monotype.
