Acrylic Additives – Liquitex

Professional additives are used to permanently adjust the chemistry and character of your acrylic colour. Made without acrylic binders, these formulas are very different from the rest of the mediums family. Most mediums contain high proportions of acrylic resins, but additives do not. Instead, they offer unique changes – water-like fluidity which makes it ideal for watercolour techniques, staining, or flow art.

Liquitex Flow Aid Additive will dramatically increase the flow of your colour or mediums while minimizing brushstrokes as well as improve the absorbency and blending of colours or mediums.

Liquitex Airbrush Medium can be used to thin colour and mediums to a water-like state ready for airbrush application. Don’t have an airbrush – no problem! You can use it to thin all types of colour or to create excellent washes and stains of colour. It also gives your paint a watercolour effect.

Remember that only one additive should be used within a colour mix as combining additives can compromise the paint film stability.

Tar and Leveling Gel – Golden

Clear Leveling Gel produces an even film with excellent clarity. It has a unique resinous, stringy consistency resulting from its levelling property. Clear Leveling gel dries to a flexible, high gloss film while imparting a levelling quality to other GOLDEN Acrylic products. It blends well with GOLDEN Acrylic colours to produce glazes.

Clear Tar Gel has a pully, tar-like feel, but in a clear, colourless gel. This extremely resinous and stringy consistency makes it feel very different from other acrylic gels. Useful for generating fine detailed lines by “dripping” it over surfaces, as it continuously flows from palette knives or other tools. It blends well with all GOLDEN Acrylic colours, although Fluid Colors work best.

PanPastel Tools and Applicators – Sofft

Draw, paint and blend like never before.

The Sofft range is a new generation of tools and applicators for artists and crafters, created by artists for artists.

Sofft Tools was specifically developed for use with PanPastels, but these handy, latex-free applicators can also be used with most water-based art and craft materials to create a variety of exciting new techniques, marks and effects. Finished effects are different compared to brushes as the brush stroke is eliminated.

Sofft products are versatile, inexpensive and can be reused several times because they are so easy to clean! “Clean” Sofft Tools between colors by wiping on a dry paper towel. Once used they will be stained from the pigments, however wiping on a paper towel will remove any pigment residue. Every now and then the sponges can be washed with a mild soap and warm water, squeeze and air dry fully.

Impasto is a painting technique where the paint is laid on an area of the surface in very thick layers, usually thick enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. This technique gives the painting a three-dimensional surface. Paint can also be mixed right on the canvas. When dry, Zellen Impasto Medium provides and retains texture without levelling.

Palette Knife – Prime Art

Palette knife painting is a term used to describe the impasto technique of applying paint to canvas using a palette knife. A palette knife is a blunt tool used for mixing or applying paint with a flexible steel blade. It is primarily used for mixing oil and acrylic paint but can be used as a painting tool.

The palette knife can be used to create thin, broken lines.
