To lower the viscosity of your acrylic paint or extend its volume, choose a fluid medium. Rather than using water to thin colour down, these dedicated formulas maintain your paint structure so it dries normally, stays robust, and keeps its archival permanence. Economically extend opaque colour to double amounts without affecting colour or acrylic stability – perfect for underpainting or when you run out of colour midway through.

From glazing to gloss boosting, adapt your paint to your practice, while Slow-Dri Medium keeps your acrylics workable for longer.

Product features:

  • Maintains paint opacity, colour intensity and hue.
  • Slows drying time to help you create more subtle colour blends.
  • Lowers the viscosity of heavier body paints.
  • Maintains paint adhesion, durability and archival quality.
  • Makes a weak tinting white when you add over 50% of the medium, increasing the value of your original colour by one level.

1 review for Acrylic Fluid Mediums – Liquitex

  1. Liezel Haupt (verified owner)

Although most acrylic paints have a gloss finish, I mostly prefer a matt finish on my art.
I purchased the Liquitex Acrylic Matte Medium (118ml) to dull down the gloss.
I tested the medium on three different brands of acrylic paints (Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylic, Amsterdam AllCrylics and Iris Heavy Body Artist Acrylic).
Allthough the matte medium worked well as an extender on all the brands and thinned out the paint, the gloss was not dulled down much at all. The paints still produced a gloss finish.
The directions say that it is compatible with all Liquitex products, which might play a role, but it is still a disappointment to me as most paint mediums perform quite well across brands.
Liquitex is a well known and high quality product which is expensive (for lots of artists).
I recommend this product only as an acrylic paint extender (when used with other brands) or when you use it along with other Liquitex Acrylic products.
The next step for me will be to try out the Liquitex Super Matte Medium, to see if it hopefully performs better.
