OPEN Acrylic Colors are formulated with an optimum balance of pigment load and 100% acrylic polymer dispersion to produce a paint with a uniquely relaxed set of working characteristics and a versatility that allows artists to explore a wider range of techniques such as portraiture and landscape painting that rely on softening, shading, glazing, and creating fine detail.

OPEN Acrylics are slow-drying paints with a slightly softer consistency than Heavy Body paints. The increased working time of these colours expands its range to include more traditional techniques once only possible with oils. Thick applications can dry extremely slowly, so we recommend artists only use OPEN Colors thinly (< 1 mm). Drying time can also be accelerated by mixing OPEN with faster-drying acrylics like Fluid and Heavy Body colours. The slow-drying capability of OPEN Acrylics also makes them suitable for some printmaking techniques. Because OPEN Acrylics dry slowly, painters who cover their palettes or use sealed containers have been able to use the same colours for weeks, reducing the amount of paint wasted and preserving colour mixtures for future use.
