Schmincke Aqua Pasto is a transparent thickening medium for tube watercolours, designed to increase the body and density of colour while reducing its natural flow. It gives watercolour paint a slightly glossy finish and makes it possible to create raised, textured marks and subtle three-dimensional effects.

Aqua Pasto can be mixed directly into tube watercolour or applied pure to the painting surface. When used with a brush or palette knife, it allows artists to build up thin layers and create expressive textural lines, making it particularly useful for experimental and mixed-media watercolour techniques. It dries slowly, giving you additional working time, and remains water-soluble even after drying.

The medium can also be applied to watercolour paper or another suitable painting surface before adding colour. Once dry, watercolour can be layered over the textured surface, allowing the underlying texture to become part of the finished artwork.
