Schmincke Watercolour Ground Fine

Schmincke Watercolour Ground Fine is designed for artists who want a relatively smooth and even surface for watercolour painting. The white primer creates a refined ground that is particularly useful when a conventional-looking watercolour surface is desired on a material such as canvas, cardboard or wood.

The ready-to-use formulation should be applied in at least three pure coats to a suitable grease-free substrate. For applications where the ground is diluted, no more than 10% water should be added and additional coats will be required to achieve the desired surface.

Available in 250ml and 500ml.

Schmincke Watercolour Ground Coarse

Schmincke Watercolour Ground Coarse provides a distinctly textured alternative to the Fine formulation. Its coarse surface introduces greater physical structure to the painting ground, making it suitable for artists who want the texture of the substrate to play a more noticeable role in their work.

The ground is supplied ready to use and is applied directly to the prepared surface without dilution. Its pronounced texture can add visual and tactile character to watercolour paintings created on canvas, cardboard, wood and other suitable grease-free surfaces.

Available in 300ml and 500ml.

Schmincke Watercolour Ground Transparent

Schmincke Watercolour Ground Transparent is intended for applications where the original appearance of the painting surface is an important part of the finished work. Rather than covering the substrate with an opaque white ground, the transparent formulation creates a paintable surface while allowing the material beneath it to remain visible.

This makes it particularly interesting for experimental and mixed-media applications, including watercolour work on decorative surfaces, prepared boards, wood and existing acrylic paintings. The ground may also be tinted before application to create a customised coloured foundation.

Once prepared, the surface can be worked with watercolour, gouache or acrylic colours, offering considerably more flexibility than a conventional white watercolour ground.
