Description

Belgian Blue novaculite comes from the same geological region of the Belgian Ardennes that produces the famous Belgian coticule whetstones. The stone is a fine-grained, blue-grey natural honing material with a consistent abrasive surface that cuts evenly and produces a refined, polished edge characteristic of natural quarried honing stones.

The 40cm length makes this a serious bench stone. Length matters for honing flat-bevel tools: a full forward stroke along the stone brings the entire bevel of a chisel or flat gouge into even contact with the abrasive surface. Short stones force partial strokes and awkward repositioning that can round the bevel or create uneven honing over time. At 40cm, this stone accommodates the full bevel of any tool in the Pfeil range in a single fluid stroke.

The Belgian Whetstone 6 is particularly suited to the flat-bevel tools of a carving and printmaking set , the sweep 1 flat chisel, bench chisels, and any other tool whose outer bevel can be laid flat against a bench surface. Use with water or a light honing oil to keep the surface clean and working effectively.
