HORADAM Naturals is a high-quality, environmentally friendly, and vegan watercolour. With a palette of 16 matte and mostly semi-transparent colours it offers a unique combination of watercolour and gouache properties allowing creativity in its purest form. The colours are made exclusively from natural earth pigments and plant resins and saps, and are vegan.

The outstanding feature of HORADAM Naturals is the use of exclusively natural earth and plant-based pigments and extracts. All pigments were carefully selected. The lightfastness of each pigment corresponds to the natural characteristics of the pigments.

The Naturals Trio Sets present three colours from the 16-colour Naturals range in 5ml tubes, grouped by the four classical elements: Fire, Earth, Air and Water:

• Fire: Kamala (220), Curcuma (250) and Dragon’s Blood (320).
• Earth: Yellow Ochre (620), Red Bolus (640) and Lalvarit Violet (650).
• Air: Rügen Chalk (110), Caucasus Earth (680) and Green Slate (720).
• Water: Indigofera (470), Celadonite (530) and Vine Black (750).

Fire: A warm set drawing from plant-based pigments. Kamala (220) is a transparent orange-yellow ochre with natural graininess and excellent lightfastness, extracted from the glands and tufted hairs of the fruits of the monkey face tree. Curcuma (250) is a subdued warm yellow from the turmeric root, used for over 4000 years in Indian traditions. Dragon’s Blood (320) is a semi-transparent woody red from the resinous secretions of the dragon’s blood tree.

Earth: A grounded set of classic earth pigments. Yellow Ochre (620) is a semi-opaque orange-brown ochre obtained from natural iron oxide, one of the oldest pigments used in prehistoric paintings. Red Bolus (640) is a reddish-brown semi-opaque earth tone from deposits in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, one of the oldest pigments with drawing pencils sawn directly from clay-rich soils in the early Renaissance. Lalvarit Violet (650) is a muted violet-brown tone made from Andesite rock originating from lava flows.

Air: A cool, light mineral set. Rügen Chalk (110) is a warm, transparent highly lightfast white made from genuine chalk pigment, derived from fossilised calcium carbonate, used in cave paintings since ancient times. Caucasus Earth (680) is a delicate cool olive green with very good lightfastness from a green pigment obtained in the Caucasus region. Green Slate (720) is a cool semi-transparent light grey made from genuine ground slate, its greenish colour coming from minerals like epidote and actinolite.

Water: A cool set spanning plant and mineral blues through to black. Indigofera (470) is a semi-transparent denim blue from the Indigofera plant, used in European art since the 1st century AD with evidence dating to 3000 BCE. Celadonite (530) is a delicate grey-green with transparent characteristics, named from the French word celadon meaning sea green. Vine Black (750) is a deep opaque black with very good lightfastness and a slight bluish anthracite tone, obtained by carbonizing young shoots of grapevines.
