Description

Stropping is what completes a sharpening sequence. After working through the Arkansas stone grades to refine the bevel and remove the gross burr, the edge still carries a fine microscopic burr, invisible to the eye but present in every cut, causing a slight drag or catch in the material. The leather strop, charged with chromium oxide polishing compound, removes this residual burr and burnishes the steel surface to a polished finish.

The Pfeil Razor Strop provides a firm, flat leather surface on a solid wooden backing block at 220x50x20mm. The length suits the full range of Pfeil linocut and block cutter tools, allowing full-bevel contact in a fluid stropping stroke. Apply a small amount of Pfeil Polishing Compound Green to the leather, work it into the surface, and strop the tool by drawing the bevel across the leather away from the cutting edge in smooth, even strokes , the same motion as shaving a straight razor.

A well-kept leather strop is a lasting studio tool. Recharge with compound when the stropping action feels unproductive. The leather itself should never need replacing under normal use.
