Schmincke Aqua Shine is a watercolour effect medium designed to create beautiful sparkling pearlescent effects in watercolour paintings. Made with gum arabic and pearlescent pigments, it adds a luminous shimmer and glossy sheen to artwork, making it ideal for highlights, decorative details and areas where you want to introduce extra brilliance.

Aqua Shine can be used in several ways. Apply it neat directly from the bottle onto dry watercolour layers for a concentrated pearlescent finish, mix it with watercolour before painting, or drop it into wet paint to create shimmering effects as the colour spreads. It can also be diluted with water when a more subtle effect is desired, although greater dilution will reduce the intensity of the pearlescent finish.

The medium slightly retards the drying time of watercolours and remains water-soluble once dry, allowing painted areas to be reactivated with water. Shake well before use to evenly distribute the pearlescent pigments throughout the medium.
