Their high standard ensures that Polychromos artists’ colour pencils are ideal for use in the graphic arts, for free artistic expression, and for the precise colouring of plans.

Part of a unique colour-matching system that encompasses all Faber-Castell Art & Graphic Products, Polychromos Colored Pencils contain the highest-quality pigments for unsurpassed lightfastness.

The buttery smooth colour laydown offered by Polychromos pencils can be easily blended for layered effects, highlights, and transitions. These vegetable oil-based pencils exhibit a richness of colour and smoothness without the ugly wax bloom that develops with layering, in some of the other popular brands on the market. Faber-Castell’s quality standards are applied consistently throughout the manufacturing process. Top-quality materials reflect Faber Castell’s knowledge and long experience in the manufacturing of art material.

The Polychromos artists’ colour pencils have extremely break-resistant leads that are both water-resistant and smudge-proof and suspended in an oil-based binder. The leads are bound to a casing of Californian cedar wood with Secureall bonding to resist breakage while providing sharp, fine lines and permanent, rich colour. The pencils are pre-sharpened. The pencils have exceptional covering power, though they will also sharpen to a fine point for detailed work. The vivid colours and optimal paintability will impress, along with many other advantages valued by professional artists.

Every pencil contains a lightfastness (LF) (light resistance) rating, as follows:

  • *** very good (100+ years).
  •   ** good.
  •     * reasonable.

These pencils are vibrant and smooth. They lay down like butter and blend extremely well with minimal effort. They are also lightfast and the pencils themselves are built to last, with Faber-Castell always making sure of quality and environmentally friendly methods. I have yet to experience any breaking, they hold up very well to sharpening and rough handling. I would say that these pencils are worth the investment 🙂
